July 9th 2023 Westville Music Bowl New Haven, CT. by Joel Shover Photography

I can’t rave enough about the Westville Music Bowl! As a music enthusiast, I was blown away by the rich musical heritage that the Yale community has fostered here. The venue itself is unlike anything I’ve experienced before – from the friendly and attentive staff to the incredible range of food and beverage options available, they truly know how to cater to their audience. Even when a drizzle of rain made an appearance, it didn’t dampen the spirits or hinder the fun-filled atmosphere. The Westville Music Bowl consistently delivers outstanding performances that leave you craving for more. Trust me, this place packs some serious talent in that bowl!

The Elovators from Boston, Massachusetts opened the show and let me tell you they are more than just a band – they’re a force for positive change within the music community. If you’re looking for an artist who not only creates incredible music but also uplifts others along the way, look no further than The Elovators. They are true champions of artistic expression and deserve all the recognition they receive.

Pepper took the stage next and things only got hotter. Beach balls were bouncing everywhere though the crowd as the heady beats and rocking tones were flowing from that stage! Pepper delivered a performance packed full of energy and style. Their music and style are second to none as the readied the crowd for the headliner.

Stick Figure took the stage and proved they are an absolute powerhouse when it comes to their distinct Reggae/Dub/Dance/Electronica sound. Led by the talented Scott Woodruff on lead vocals and guitar, their music never fails to transport me to a tropical paradise. The infectious melodies created by Kbong’s keyboards add an extra layer of magic to their performances. And let’s not forget about Cocoa, the adorable tour dog who stole the show with her entrance, bringing a wave of pure joy with her.

Stick Figure’s live shows are an experience like no other, leaving you with a smile on your face and a desire to hit the dance floor and live the life! From the moment they took the stage, they had the crowd on their feet and singing along all the hits including ”Angels Above Me”, “Livin it”, “Way of Life”, Doin’ Time (Sublime cover)” – they played all my favorites and more. By More I mean they covered PHISH with a little YEM jam Boy, Man, God, Shit! The energy was electric, and lead singer Woodruff’s connection with the audience was palpable. When he broke into “All for You”, you could feel that it was a special moment just for us.

The encore was absolutely fiery, with “World on Fire” and “Apocalypse” taking things to another level. If you haven’t seen Stick Figure live, you’re missing out on an unforgettable experience. Check out their video here – trust me, it’s worth it!
