In an announcement on his Facebook page, John Mayer told his fans that the next several shows will be postponed due to positive tests for Covid, including Mayer himself.
“Whelp. More members of the band tested positive for Covid today, and I was one of them. This means we have to reschedule the next four shows, which we’ve already rescheduled and posted above. I’m so sorry to make you change your plans. This is a bummer for everyone in the band and crew, to say nothing of the question hanging over everyone’s head – mine included – as to how I tested positive on PCR twice in two months. (The first was extremely mild, but this one’s got the better of me.) We’ll give you everything we’ve got at these upcoming shows, just as soon as we rest up and regroup. With love and appreciation… me.”

Shows scheduled for Pittsburgh, Belmont NY, and two nights in Boston were postponed until May. Some fans were purportedly packing their bags to leave for these shows already. This tour has begun to shows signs of succumbing to Covid-19 in the last few days with the band members starting to test positive, and the lineup of the band adjusting to accommodate missing members. Philadelphia drummer, and Tonight Show band leader Questlove came to one of the NYC shows to help out.
Especially disappointed is opening act Alexander 23, who are getting their huge break by opening for Mayer on some of their first shows ever.
Covid-19 has hampered Mayer already this year, with Dead and company being forced to postpone a major appearance in Mexico while fans were already at the resort. Over a series of days and hours, with more and more members of the band coming up positive, and fans already checking into their hotel rooms, the band had to make the difficult decision to cancel their appearances. Fans received the best consolation that they could receive in that their vacation expenses were refunded. So while no Dead and company shows occurred, bands got a free vacation to Mexico.
Covid-19 ripped through the tour of Trey Anastasio band this past October, with one day after another revealing band members with Covid. Anastasio lost drummer Russ Lawton, then vocalist and trombone player Jennifer Hartswick. The Ohio show saw Anastasio play solo acoustic, and within days his Phish bandmate and drummer Jon Fishman saved the day for shows in Pittsburgh PA and Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
