VENUE SPOTLIGHT by Eric Sutter
52 Sumner is a new Springfield music venue in the Forest Park neighborhood at the corner of 52 Sumner and Longhill St. The building constructed in 1894 is a former Congregational church built in the New-Gothic Revival style with the exterior without any substantial changes made in over a century. By the turn of the century in 1912, the church supported the growing neighborhood of Forest Park coinciding with the beginning of a large scale development of Forest Park. It had been known as Faith United Church until 2023 when Springfield Performing Arts Ventures, Inc. bought it and developed a speak-easy themed performance space offering varied entertainment with space for weddings and special events.
The venue has already hosted some amazing shows including Christone Kingfish in May of 2024. Video by J Doody.
