LMN&R is profiling Aryan Ashtiani AKA Mareux ahead of his live performance at Cruel World at the Pasadena Rose Bowl on Saturday, May 17th at 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Sad Girls Stage.

The maverick and avant garde talent Mareux is known for producing, writing and recording all of his music from his bedroom studio in Los Angeles, CA.

Mareux has acquired a very committed and devoted following across the electronic, goth, synth-pop and dance music scenes. This development initially occurred because of a cover of The Cure’s “The Perfect Girl” went viral. The track is now platinum here in the United States (for almost a second time) and is gold in France.

His album ‘Nonstop Romance‘ is due out on June 27th on Revolution / Warner Records with lead single “Laugh Now Cry Later.” The new album is being described more emotional and sentimental but definitely happy and in the spirit of wanting to have fun. In contrast, to the album’s most downbeat and downhearted single, “Laugh Now Cry Later.”

“I started writing this song way back in 2018 and it’s gone through several evolutions since then. At the time, I was coming off of a bad relationship and was feeling bitter. I brought it back recently, not inspired by my own misfortunes, but those of some of my friends. This song is a standout on the album, not because it’s better than the other songs, but because it’s the saddest song on it,” says Mareux.

There is a tendency for many artists to make their more sleek, sexy, and smooth darkwave and goth-pop that landed them in the spotlight in the first place, but Mareux’s sophomore album – ‘Nonstop Romance’ – is the opposite – rough and umannered.
