LMN&R is profiling the Vancouver, Canadian post-punk band ACTORS ahead of their live performance at Cruel World at the Pasadena Rose Bowl on Saturday, May 17th at 12:55pm on the Outsiders Main Stage.
In a brief interview via email with lead vocalist Jason Corbett with LMN&R, he expressed his enthusiasm and passion for joining the lineup of iconic bands and artists coming together to performing Cruel World. Also, he paid a loving and respectful tribute to the legacy of these important acts. He spoke to ACTORS’ mission to deliver the best performance and an indelible mark with audiences.
“It’s beyond an honour for ACTORS to share the stage with some of the greatest artists in our genre. So many of these bands have influenced and inspired us from the very beginning. Coming in from Canada, we feel a responsibility to bring our A-game and represent.”
ACTORS released their first album, ‘It Will Come to You’ in 2018. The hallmark of the sonic and musical landscape of the LP is moody synths and propulsive bass anchored by Corbett’s unique, charismatic vocal style. In 2021, ‘Acts of Worship’ expanded above the previous effort with a noir pop aesthetic that balanced out a melancholy side with bursts of vitality and raw power as to electrify the listener.
ACTORS is a seasoned live act having toured extensively across North America, Europe, the UK, and Mexico. The band appeared at many prominent festivals like Cruel World, Grauzone, Cold Waves, Substance LA, and Wave-Gotik-Treffen.
ACTORS Brings A Fierce and Menacing Attitude To The Twisted Tale of Obsessive Love On “Object of My Desire” Below is a review of their exciting and incendiary single “Object of My Desire” along with an edgy and gritty live performance featuring Jason Corbett on lead vocals and guitar; Shannon Hemmett on synth/vocals; Kendall Wooding on bass and vocals and Adam Fink on drums.
ACTORS takes the listener on a wild and dangerous ride in all their goth and dark wave glory on “Object Of My Desire.” Passion and wanton lust permeate the single which is filled with an undercurrent of tension beneath the surface that is more than palatable. It is sexy as it is sensual. The dynamics of power and control which dominate the mood and lyrics as does the image of that uncontrollable feeling of wanting something you can’t have. Maybe it’s not even real but there is this illusion one builds of craving someone that is so strong and all consuming that you lose yourself to an illusion where reality and fantasy completely blur.
ACTORS succeeds in creating a song that captures those addictive and complicated emotions with vivid and descriptive detail that puts you right there as the captivating story plays out with stormy vengeance.
The video that accompanies “Object of My Desire” is a straightforward performance of the band showcasing how integral each musician is to one another in terms of the magic and chemistry giving off a decidedly wicked and mysterious vibes.
