The Sweet Remains The Center for the Arts in Natick on Friday October 1st 2021.

The Sweet Remains are a trio of songwriters who have combined their songs and a penchant for vocal harmony into an amazing performance.  They opened the show at center stage around a condenser mic showing off the sweet harmonies of Rich Price, Greg Naughton & Brian Chartrand with their song Freedom.  Next the stripped down version of the band followed up with Van Morrison’s Into the Mystic.

The Sweet Remains

After the opening the trio shifted to their traditional instrumental positions on stage with Brian Chartland & Rich Price on guitars, Greg Naughton on electric keyboard & at the house baby grand piano.  For the next suite of songs they were joined by long time drummer Brad Wentworth (who is also in the house band for the Broadway show Dear Evan Hansen) and brand new member Josh Lattanzi.  Their long time bass player has taken a journey into van life and is touring around America with his family.  Josh was welcomed onto the stage and covered bass guitar and standing bass.

When Price (Burlington, VT) – www.richpricemusic.com), Naughton (NYC), and and Chartrand (Phoenix, AZ – www.brianchartrand.com) met for a chance jam-session in a Rhode Island hotel room in 2007, the three instantly recognized a musical blend and kinship that would eventually overcome geography (and solo-careers) to form The Sweet Remains.

The Sweet Remains guided the audience through 8 songs featuring a nice selection from their discography including: Goodbye Arizona, When the World Slowed Down, Love the Way, Spark, Moving in Slow Motio, Crumble and Dance with Me– with a nice mash-up of Blackwater. And then the Beatles’ Come Together. This last song was a wonderful post Covid interpretation with the audience invited to sign and clap along, which they did enthusiastically.  The Sweet Remains covered music from their previous two albums as well as their newest work resulting from lots of pandemic holed up in the attic time.

Rich, Greg & Brian again took center stage on their own at the condenser microphone for Howling Night & Takes.

Brad and Josh returned to the stage to support the band for Both Your Hands. Next came their interpretation of the Grateful Dead’s Brown Eyed Women. The Sweet Remains’ songs Rubicon & Music Fills the Soul (Let the music fill your heart) closed the show.

They encourage their new and longtime fans to see their new film The Independents.  It is available on multiple streaming platforms. Written & directed by Greg Naughton it a fictionalized version of the bands’ formation; the story of 3 solo-artists who meet at a crossroads and discover harmony.  The film was made over several years in between the bands tours and other releases

The Sweet Remains returned to the stage for a two song encore closing with their interpretation of the early Police hit So Lonely – also a great pandemic commentary. The band sounded great.  Musicians and harmonies were in good form.  The house was mostly full with audience members fully complying with Covid guidelines.  TCAN requires all staff, performers, and patrons to show proof of COVID-19 vaccine when they work, perform, or attend performances or movie screenings at TCAN.

Following their night in Natick Mass, the bands swings thru Connecticut with two evenings then shifting to middle America for dates in Michigan & Ohio and finally ending up with a movie screening and performance in Florida.
