So after about a year of planning, endless fantasizing, packing and a drive from our place in central New England to Bradley airport, a flight to Miami Florida, a shuttle bus from the airport, and a lengthy but reasonable line to embark, we were on the MSC Divina for the Sounds of the Sea boat cruise.
Seven days in the Caribbean with Max Creek, Donna the Buffalo and Adam Ezra Group. Seeing as a vacation is a relatively rare thing for anyone, we could not be more excited. Every day had regular boat activities planned which included stops at major ports including Jamaica, Cayman, Cozumel and the Bahamas plus regular ship activities- but every day also had awesome music planned in a schedule that felt like it was just for us.
The first night was an 8PM show in what was called the Black and White Lounge for an opening night party. The only band that night would be Max Creek. Rider productions had hors d’oeuvres and tropical drinks passed around to everyone for free for an hour, and we all spent this night getting to know each other and connecting with new friends and old.
The room was kinda crazy, a sprawling nightclub in a black and white decor, and this huge crazy crystal chandelier fixture thing that also had lights in it. The ceilings were low but it’s like a boat, you know? There were comfy couches, a dance floor and a huge bar. An ideal setting to get started.
Of course I forgot my recorder so I missed what was the most obvious song on the trip- a Big Boat opener. From there the band unfurled an absolutely perfect 2 hour show. From the Wildside second song to the Windows closer the set was patient, measured, and very, very good. It felt like our troubles were melting away and the band was captaining us into what we all hoped to be the perfect musical vacation.
