George Porter Jr & The Runnin Pardners high stepped their way into Hartford, CT on Friday night, July 21st, 2023, for an intimate evening of some serious funk while promoting his new album “Crying Hope”. George Porter one of the progenitors of Funk is best know for his work with The Meters from the mid-1960s.
During Porters amazing career spanning over four decades, he’s worked with artists like Bill Kreutzman, Paul McCartney, Melody Trucks, Warren Haynes, Eric Krasno, David Byrne, Allen Toussaint, and Lee Dorsey just to name a few. To say George is the man, the myth and the legend is an understatement.
George brought some fantastic musicians with him this evening Michael Lemmier (Keys) Terrance Houston (drums) Chris Adkins (guitar) as they brought the intimate crowd to a funktified trance while George played along with his distict D Lakin bass guitar to perfection.
As George stood on his stool and masterfully struck each string, I couldn’t stop thinking that not only is this man laying down some severe funk, he’s also giving the lesson on how to do it.

Thankfully his music and style will supersede the test of time and be passed on for multiple generations to come.
We were treated to many old school favorites and some Meters covers as well! If you get a chance to see this great lineup with George, do it, you might even get lucky enough to get a signed album by the man himself!
