We are sad to report on the passing of Tina Turner.

She was 83 years old and died at her home in Switzerland after a lengthy illness.

Turner was an icon of rock and roll music. She survived a difficult life with dignity, rising to incredible prominence as a performer.

Her prolific career spanned a half century, and she sold some 100 million albums worldwide.

Tina Turner was nominated for twenty five Grammy awards and won eight including Best Album, Best Female Rock performance (multiple times), Best Record, and Best Female Pop Rock Vocal Performance.

Turner’s cover of John Fogerty’s Proud Mary became the definitive version of one of the most covered and well known rock songs of all time. Many people do not even know that it was not an original. Her story of triumph, her look, her vocal style, her dancing- all become iconic. Turner’s story, music and performance are sewn into the fabric of American culture, and the very DNA of Rock and Roll.

‘With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,’ her representatives said in a statement. Turner is survived by her three children and her husband Erwin Bach. She was previously married to Ike Turner, with whom she began her career. Turner famously told her story on her abusive marriage via her music and the film “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”
