On Saturday, June 11, 2022, Muskrat Flats will kick off their Summer Tour at In and Out of The Garden We Go in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. by Andrea Flohn
Philadelphia-based experimental jam ensemble, Muskrat Flats was born out of the studio production of their album Field of Rays in 2018. The group was founded by brothers Matt and Patrick McCann who possess a unique desire to carry on the musical traditions of their ‘musical ancestors’ like the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. For most of the band’s existence, Matthew lived on the West Coast, while Patrick led creative efforts in Pennsylvania through projects like Paddy & The Caravan and The Muskrats Trio. Despite the distance, the band managed to make the most of their time onstage together and perform at some of their most coveted venues.
During the height of the pandemic in 2020, Muskrat Flats performed at Ohmfest in Dover, Delaware where they recorded a live album featuring a few of their original tracks, along with covers of “Help on The Way>Slipknot>Franklin’s Tower” and “And the Ladies Were the Rest of the Night”. In early summer of 2021, the band was featured at Philadelphia’s Milo the Meeting House, and just a few months later, the Muskrats gave the performance of a lifetime at Ardmore Music Hall.
This summer, The Flats will be featured at two East Coast festivals, including In and Out of The Garden We Go in Morrisville, PA and FlowJam in Rixeyville, VA. Following FlowJam, the band will make their return to Ardmore Music Hall for their ‘Dead White and Blue’ celebration. From there, the Muskrats will hop back in the van and head for a few of the Southeast’s most popular live music venues, including Martin’s Downtown in Roanoke, VA and the Preservation Pub in Knoxville, TN. To wrap up the tour, the band will perform at GOTTROCKS in Greenville, SC and One World Brewing West in Asheville, NC.
In addition to their Summer Tour, Muskrat Flats has also started a fundraising campaign called Fuel the Flats. With each donation to the campaign, supporters are rewarded with Limited Edition Summer Tour merchandise which may include t-shirts, posters, tickets to upcoming events, stickers, magnets, signed setlists, and more. For more information about Fuel the Flats or to donate, visit the band ‘s funding page here.
The band will also be live streaming shows and releasing video clips from the tour on the Official Muskrat Flats YouTube page here.
