With a career that spans three decades, Buffalo, New York natives, moe. have become one of the top-tier groups in the jamband scene today. On Thursday, February 2nd, they made their first appearance in Jim Thorpe, PA at Penn’s Peak.
Gracing the stage a little after 8 PM, the quintet dove deep into their catalog with a solid rendition of “Spine Of A Dog,” that gave guitarists Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey a chance to showcase their masterful guitar skills. The opening number flowed straight into a high-energy “Spaz Medicine,” off their late 90’s album Tin Cans and Car Tires. moe.rons were in their glory at this point in the evening, when the Buffalo jamband dusted off “Cornflake Girl,” that was last played live nearly five years ago. Highlighting the first set was “Timmy Tucker” that gave bearded bassist, Rob Derhak, a time to shine, with percussionist Jim Loughlin keeping an upbeat tempo throughout the extended jam. You could see the fans moving and grooving throughout Penn’s’ Peak as the band segued into a stellar version of “Hector’s Pillow.” Bringing the first set to a close was fan favorite, “Okayalright,” that gave a chance for the audience to belt out the lyrics at the top of their lungs.
It may have been a little chilly on in Jim Thorpe on Thursday, but the New York music veterans were bringing the heat. They knew exactly what the crowd wanted, and were delivering on all fronts. On “Moth” the group was all in sync with Vinnie Amico’s stellar drumming and ghost notes, the guys took the jam into another stratosphere. With the opening chords of the group’s most popular tunes, “Rebubula,” the energy of the crowd was in full swing. Schnier and Garvey’s guitar work was in top form as the band gracefully transitioned into “Jazz Wank” into “Buster,” then finishing strong with a reprise of “Rebubula.”

moe. drove the Jim Thorpe crowd home with a smile on their faces as they treated them to the a double encore with “Downward Facing Dog” and the David Bowie classic “Fame.” The band showed why after 25+ years of touring and creating music they are still at the top of their game.
