March 10 2022 saw Dogs in a Pile hit Woodlands Tavern in C’bus. by Jack Rock

I arrived at the Tavern and was greeted by a friendly face at the door to the venue.  We exchanged hellos and smiles and I got my wristband for the show.  I walked in after the second song and was immediately blown away by Dogs in a Pile

Woodlands had built a huge stage accross the back of the room, over the patio exit door.  The light show was intense, and the acoustics were superb.  This was my first time seeing the band, and I was impressed.

Dogs in a Pile are a five Piece from Asbury Park, NJ.  Founded in 2018, they play a mix of Jam covers and originals of their own.  But these guys aren’t your typical jam band.  They bring a fresh, young energy to a widely varied mix of songs including Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia songs along with a varied mix; all played by a group that is tight as hell.  On this night they even played something by Smash Mouth.

The band are all pro-level players. While Dogs in a Pile only has one album under their belts, they’re no strangers to the live music scene.  What took four years to build was on display in Columbus on Thursday night.  Fireworks on guitar, a fantastic light show, and at least three vocalists to change things up throughout the night.

As far as musician quality, I would say they are all top notch.  They can play jazz and rock, and I believe they even have a ragtime song in their repertoire.  Keyboards and Vocals, Guitar and Vocals, Drums, Guitar and Vocals, and Bass comprise this quintet.  I found out about them via a live multi camera video from a few nights prior to this show.  I was impressed, and was more than happy to pay to go see them.  My favorite song of the show was “Look Johnny,” off of their debut album.  A close second was their rendition of “Feels Like a Stranger”, by the Grateful Dead.  Check them out and see when they play a show near you.

I think this band has a lot of great times ahead of them.  I listened to their album and really liked it.  I was so moved by their show that I bought a t-shirt on my way out.  What do you have to lose by going to see this band?  Remember, bands have to fill up their tanks for at least $4 a gallon, and prices on everything have gone up.  Support your local touring act and maybe you can have as much fun as I did.
