Welcome summer 2023! We at LMNR are excited to tell you about the Green River Festival, happening this weekend at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield, MA.

Named one of “fifty essential summer music festivals” by The New York Times, Green River Festival is Western Massachusetts’ signature summer event. Celebrating its 36th year, Green River is a fantastic celebration of music and community: a world-class lineup of over 30 acts on four stages, the best in local food, beer, and wine, handmade juried crafts at The Makers Market, a wide array of kid’s music and activities, and camping. Come see why NPR recently wrote, “The Green River Festival lineup gets more legendary by the year.”

The lineup this year includes Little Feat, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Rubblebucket, The Wood Brothers, Sierra Ferrell, Cory Wong, Bridget Kearney, The Felice Brothers, Sammy Rae and the Friends, Eilen Jewell, The Heavy Heavy, Donna the Buffalo, Thee Sacred Souls, as well as Western Massachusetts’ “local heroes” Kimaya Diggs, Sandy Bailey, The Winterpills, The Greys, Moxie, and many more! Diggs has just released her second full-length album Quincy and Bailey is poised to release her debut album later this year. This music magazine is excited to see these musicians’ stars rising and is grateful that Green River Fest will give them a wider audience.

Not only will GRF provide a fabulous array of internationally-renowned acts, it also offers a mouthwatering selection of food options. The Franklin County Fairgrounds provides drinking water from spigots around the property so bring an empty water bottle! We are also pleased to share that the festival offers completely compostable food serving dishes and utensils and a dedicated group of workers makes sure everything that can be recycled and composted. . . gets recycled and composted.

Several acts this year are returning favorites: Donna the Buffalo, Rubblebucket, Sierra Ferrell, Kimaya Diggs, Bridget Kearney (who has performed before with her band Lake Street Dive), and Eilen Jewell, Felice Brothers, to name a few. Below is the schedule for each day:

Pro tip: save the image in your phone and add it to your “favorites” album so you can access it even if you lose service at the festival! Also, the organizers of GRF encourage you to text GREEN to (877)540-7726 to sign up for festival alerts like surprise sets happening on the Back Porch Stage and more.

As parking is limited, folks are encouraged to park in downtown Greenfield and catch the shuttle on Main St in front of Hawks and Reed Performing Arts Center. There is plenty of lot of parking behind the former Wilson’s building (by the new skate park) on Chapman St and in the parking garage on Olive St. Locals can also take advantage of the bicycle valet service at the fairgrounds! The Makers Market

includes many festival favorites as returning vendors, as well as six new vendors. Get in line for your flower crowns at Daisy Stone Studio and then peruse through the vendor row for gemstone jewelry, authentic Mexican leather goods, creative beadwork, wild tie dyes, upcycled clothing, handmade kaleidoscopes, colorful stickers, and more!

Hair braids, face painting, henna body art and massage therapy are amongst the vendors too, and be sure to check out the glass blowing demonstrations and tie dye activities.
