Hello dear readers!  It’s been a long time!  Live music is back and so am I, and do I have a show for you to see!  If you have plans on June 16th, cancel or reschedule, because you do not want to miss this fiery redheaded guitar slinger when she hits Portsmouth, NH.

Sue Foley, self-dubbed “The Ice Queen,” hails from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  Born to a working-class family, she grew up listening to her father play guitar and sing Irish folk music but was also influenced by the music of the times – the burgeoning sounds of blues rock that was being played by the Rolling Stones and the like.  When she was fifteen, she watched James Cotton play live and was forever changed; she decided that she was going to play blues guitar, and since has dedicated her life to her craft.

Sue formed her first band after moving to Vancouver, BC in the mid 1980’s and quickly gained notice, playing many of the clubs on the island and mainland.  By the time she was 21, Sue had moved to Austin, TX, where she was signed on with the legendary Antone’s label.  Antone’s is an institution down in Austin and has propelled many greats over the years, including Jimmie Vaughan and his kid brother, Stevie Ray Vaughan.  Along the way Sue won a Juno in 2001 for her album Love Coming Down, plus many Maple Blues Awards.  Just recently, she won two Blues Music Awards for Best Traditional Blues Album for Pinky’s Blues and the Koko Taylor Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist, repeating her 2020 win in the same category.

I am absolutely psyched to see this show at Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club.  This is a new spot for music in New Hampshire, and I am thrilled to finally get to see a show there – even more so to have it be The Ice Queen herself I get to see.  I sure hope y’all will come out and join me! (Tickets are available here.)
