While much of Southern California was focused on Game 5 of the World Series Wednesday night 10-29-25, (Dodgers Lost) the real action for local music lovers was at the Ventura Theater, where Pink Talking Fish delivered a performance that reminded everyone why live music still matters. The band, known for blending the music of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish into a seamless, genre-defying experience, transformed the old venue into a playground of sound, rhythm, and energy.

From the opening notes, PTF took the stage with the reminder that an “anything can happen” attitude comes from years of musical chemistry. Their approach to improvisation felt organic, allowing songs to evolve naturally while still maintaining the spirit of the original material. The interplay between guitar, keys, bass, and drums was fluid with each musician responding intuitively to the others, creating a sense of conversation within the performance. It’s always great to hear Pink Floyd played with strong technical prowess cranked out of a loud PA system.

The audience, a mix of returning fans and curious newcomers, quickly found themselves swept into the groove. The Ventura Theater’s acoustics amplified every nuance, from the soaring guitar passages of Floyd to the tight, funky rhythms of Talking Heads that got the floor moving. Despite the LA Dodgers’ playoff game playing out just miles away, the crowd was fully present, immersed in the shared experience of sound and spontaneity.

As the night built toward its climactic finish, it was clear that Pink Talking Fish had given their audience a midweek escape that felt both nostalgic and new. When the notes faded and the house lights rose, fans lingered, buzzing with gratitude. Outside, under Ventura’s cool coastal air, one truth was undeniable: while the city may have been watching baseball, the real victory happened on that stage.
