Woodlands Tavern February 7th and 8th 2025 Columbus, Ohio by Jack O’Handley
I’ll admit I was a little late to the Friday show, but I found out later this was a show “not to be missed.” The energy and vibes were high from the getgo. The band was in top form, showcasing songs from both older and newer eras. I got there a couple songs before “Schwa,” an expansive adventure type song that has more than 3 time changes. And that is one thing that sets this Midwest jamband apart from the others. Vocal harmonies are a second thing and the guys in Hookah were harmonizing well on this night. One of the reasons the crowd gets into it is because the band looks like they’re having fun.
One can only imagine the amount of rehearsal time, live shows, and practice it took for Hookah to get “that” good. What I mean is I have seen Hookah a lot, throughout different eras. This means I saw them with Ed, with Mullins, and now Eric(Sarge). I felt like what I witnessed that weekend was possibly as good or better than some of the top shelf Ed shows. Sarge really rallies the troops to play their best, and he has a very strong voice. He’s a good guitar player too. I wouldn’t mind seeing him take a couple more solos.

After night one, I felt like I should head back for night two. I arrived early enough to see the beginning of the show, to the end of the show. I made new friends each night. and had a blast cheering on Hookah. The second night had some highlights like “Black Mamba,” and a closer of “And When I Die,” an old traditional song.
Overall, I was overjoyed to see my old favorite band once again, in a nice clean venue like Woodlands. I felt welcome at the shows, and I appreciate that. I love the band, and I love the good vibes. Cheers to a long and joyful ride!
