Hotel Ziggy West Hollywood, CA April 04 2023 by Harriet Kaplan

Ava Della Pietra is a young, rising pop singer/songwriter that has successfully hit the target crafting songs that are original, sensitive, universal and relatable. The material leans toward the music of the teen marketplace touching on subjects of the innocence of unrequited love, the disappointment of ghosting by a close, personal friend, also addressing mental health issues and staying positive in the face of life’s challenges.

A recent performance at Hotel Ziggy in Hollywood, CA, showed Della Pietra to be a likable and engaging artist live. The upbeat brunette singer talked to the enthusiastic audience between songs eagerly giving context to each one. There were number of highlights during the generous nine-song set: “Happy For You,” “It Started With U,” “Worst of Times” and “Optimist.” A cover of Maroon 5’s “Memories” was moving and poignantly performed. Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen” added some passion, edge and rawness to the set.

Della Pietra is also a gifted multi-instrumentalist that played piano and ukulele at this showcase sponsored by New Found New Music. Besides being an accomplished vocalist, Della Pietra is also an actress who performed on the national tours of Les Misérables and with the original cast of Broadway’s School of Rock.

Della Pietra was also supported by a very good backing band featuring Reilly Martin on guitar; Christine Meisenhelter on bass, Olivia Morreale on keys and Fer Fuentes on drums. The dynamic and talented quartet didn’t under or overplay sonically but found a solid middle ground that rightly kept the focus on the songs.

It was clear Ava Della Pietra resonated and left a memorable impression on the audience some already there to see her play live and new fans clearly taken with her material and performance they happily yelled out for an encore.
