July 30 2022 Hollywood California welcome the classic rocker. By Harriet Kaplan

John Fogerty brought back more than pure nostalgia and memories for thousands of multi-generational fans attending the Hollywood Bowl show on July 30th. The youthful, 77-year-old musician, singer/songwriter and guitarist  co-founded Credence Clearwater Revival and later went on to have a very successful solo career.

Fogerty displayed a very keen and sharp sense of humor, wit and a little bit of wisdom- Fogerty shared it all with his fans. He mixed it up telling personal stories and anecdotes about his career and the times he lived through. Fogerty even shared family photos with the audience.

In fact, his sons, Tyler and Shane, and daughter Kelsey, are all in his current band, Fogerty’s Traveling Band. They are talented and accomplished musicians who play together in a band called Hearty Har. But as part of Fogerty’s Traveling Band, they really were impressive and together they were dynamite onstage. This red-hot group is comprised of crack musicians that brought many of CCR’s greatest hits, legendary cover songs and songs from “Centerfield” to life with a renewed sense of urgency, fire, passion all with a bit of a contemporary feel.

Undiminished by time, Fogerty’s stellar and highly original guitar skills remain intact. His playing is as potent as ever with an arsenal of innovative  licks that pre-date those of Eddie Van Halen who Fogerty mentioned talking to the audience. Fogerty’s trademark bluesy, roots-rock, swamp-soaked vocals may have changed a bit in timbre but continue to induce excitement in the listener and give one goosebumps.

The hour-plus show was a total triumph. Fogerty declared it was good to play and play live. This confession showed his grace and humility. It was also heartwarming and touching as an artist- baring his soul with the audience letting them into his world. The performance was set against a backdrop of cultural touchstones like lava lamps, historical archival footage projected on a screen above the band playing onstage and CCR memorabilia including posters and iconic band photographs.

This show was a thoroughly rocking good time for all.
