On Saturday, November 13, 2021, Circle “D” Productions will present SHINE ON, a Pink Floyd tribute band , in a rare intimate performance at the Lord’s New Church Event Center, in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. The South Jersey/ Metro Philadelphia based group was founded by members Camille Kociuba (vocals, rhythm guitar), Andrew Chojnacki (vocals, keys), Riley Michlovsky (lead guitar), and Alex Chojnacki (sax, keys, guitar). The four musicians originally met in the School of Rock’s performance program, with each member having been selected for their high skill level.
Not long after the musicians had been selected into the program, their school was destroyed and shut down due to flooding. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, they continued to perform together and eventually formed Shine On, welcoming two new members into the band, bassist Nick Bsales and drummer Brad Beatty.. Shine On has performed at memorable venues within the tri-state region including the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ, The Bourre in Atlantic City, NJ, The Stanhope House in Stanhope, NJ, the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA, and The Queen in Wilmington, Delaware.
Shine On’s performances encapsulate the timelessness of the Pink Floyd songbook; typically including material written in the early years of their career and many of the iconic songs found on Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, The Wall, Wish You Were Here, and Meddle. Last month, the band was recognized as the “Overall Community Band of The Year” at the Elephant Indie Music Awards held in Mays Landing, NJ. This week, Live Music News & Review caught up with Shine On to discuss touring through the pandemic, their performance at the Lord’s New Church this month, and why it’s exceedingly important to keep the music of Pink Floyd alive today.

LMNR: As a band, and as individuals what has encouraged you all to come this far and to keep playing despite the challenges of the pandemic?
Camille K: Our true passion for performing, music, and specifically the music of Pink Floyd, has been a key motivator. Like many other musicians during the lockdown, we were all bummed to not be playing. I personally missed performing so much, and what kept me going was the hope that the world would soon return to normal. This is what I clung onto, and my band mates did the same. We all sharpened and honed our crafts during the spare time we had, looking forward to when we would be able to gig again. When things got safer, we started rehearsing, taking many safety precautions. Then, we started live-streaming shows, and eventually performed live in-person again. We’re so happy to be back!
LMNR: What have been some of the most memorable moments as a band this year, and what type of insight has it given you on where live music is headed?
Andrew John: I think that headlining the Ship of Fools Wharf Rat festival was a big accomplishment for us, and a really fun event overall. It’s always great to play at the Ship of Fools Wharf Rat group’s events, and I always enjoy being in the crowd just as much as being onstage with them. The Wharf Rats in the Garden festival and The Bourre sets were also fun times. I think this year has forced the band to reconsider our life performances both consciously and subconsciously, and we’re now more focused on giving a great performance with new onstage effects. I really think that moving forward, our live music will be more focused on presenting a more entertaining and interactive interpretation of music that you can’t get from a studio recording.
LMNR: You all have made several appearances at the Bourre in Atlantic City this year. What were those experiences like and what do you enjoy about playing in AC?
Nick Bsales: Those were really fun shows. The sound quality on the outdoor stage was the best we’ve ever had, and it was a really vibrant atmosphere. There was this weird drunk dancing guy interrupting the show and when he got kicked out, we were playing “Wish You Were Here”. The whole scene was very comedic, while heartbreaking, yet beautiful, a very poetic moment. The fries at Bourre were really great. Atlantic City is chill.
LMNR: Why do you think it’s important for people to remember and listen to the music of Pink Floyd during this era?
Alex Chojnacki: I think that people should still listen to the music of Pink Floyd since many of the messages that their songs contained still hold up today. With all of the events in the world today, we need all of the good advice and messages we can get. Their themes about life, relationships, governments, and much more were relevant at the time, and are still relevant today. Also, their musical talent is amazing, and their sound is something that no other band has been able to match. Listening to their music and appreciating the musicianship and talent that went into these songs is something worth doing, especially during the modern era.
LMNR: What are you looking forward to about playing the Lord’s New Church next month?
Riley Michlovsky: I look forward to a few things playing at the LNC this November. We don’t really play out too much this way, so new exposure to a new crowd will be nice, always is. This is a really unique venue that seems to fit the vibe of our music quite well. We have a liquid light show planned as well as some other cool surprises during our set. This should be a fun one!
LMNR: What else can we look forward to from you all in the near future?
Brad Beatty: For the first time ever, we are going to incorporate video projections and a custom light show into our future live performances. Pink Floyd live shows were known to push the boundaries of live visual experiences and special effects. I know a family friend who saw Pink Floyd during the Division Bell Tour in 1994 and was blown away by the lights, lasers, and projections. This is such a huge aspect of Pink Floyd live shows and we are so excited to finally replicate it the best we can. We always strive to put on the most authentic Pink Floyd experience as possible and this is our logical next step to achieve that.
The Lord’s New Church is located at 1725 Huntingdon Valley Road in Huntingdon Valley, PA. Once the estate of Rev. Theodore Pitcairn, the LNC rests just beyond Philadelphia and borders the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust. In the 1930’s Pitcairn transformed the 1700’s farmland into a sprawling estate for his large family, equipped with a lavish home, orangery and greenhouse, and an art studio. Today, the land is largely occupied by visitors, private parties and weddings, and of course live music events. The picturesque property has served as unique space to host live music outdoors throughout the summer and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
