Trey Anastasio announced the news today:
“Starting tonight in Pittsburgh, Jon Fishman will join the Trey Anastasio Band for their remaining fall dates ending this Sunday at Radio City Music Hall. We wish both Russ Lawton and Jennifer Hartswick a fast recovery. Thank you for your continued support.”
This follows yesterday’s announcement, “Despite extensive precautions (and a fully vaccinated band and crew), Russ Lawton has unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19 and will sit out the rest of the tour. Trey will still perform tonight’s show solo acoustic. Stay tuned for more info on this week’s shows and thank you for the continued support.”
Last night’s show was the first show after this announcement, and was at Express Live! in Columbus OH.

This has been an especially rough year for Anastasio and his band mates. Long time bassist Tony Markelis passed away recently which must have been a devastating blow to Anastasio who had been working with Markelis for the entirety of the Trey Anastasio Band’s history. Last week Jennifer Hartswick tested positive prompting the exit of the entire horn section from the band. And mere hours before the show in Columbus OH last night drummer Russ Lawton tested positive.
Ever the trooper, Anastasio persevered and on a moment’s notice pivoted toward a solo acoustic show. This is a feat for any performer and Anastasio’s ability to follow the industry dictate of “The Show Must Go On” is commendable.
This news comes on the heels of Dead and Company canceling their two upcoming shows in Florida and tour announcements, postponements, cancellations all over the live music industry. Different protocols for different artists, venues, and states make for a difficult to navigate circumstance that is equally frustrating artists and fans alike.
