On Tuesday, Australia’s own “Parcels” tore the roof off the KIA Forum in Los Angeles but not before NY’s “The Lemon Twigs” set the stage for an evening of retro-esque, pure and simply inspired music.

The Lemon Twigs have been making heart wrenching, dynamic singer-songwriter styled music (some might say power pop) now for a little over a decade and are still in a place of just scratching the surface of their inherent brilliance as artists. All four members are multi instrumentalists who can sing and play their way to the largest stages of the world. If you’re lucky enough to have them in your town for an evening, get your tickets now because it’s only a matter of time before they will lead the way to the top of the charts, the highest echelons of music legend.
Parcels hail from Wales, Australia and have only played American stages a handful of times. Their brand of dance pop blends British second wave invasion with American jam band intensity. They burned their way through a two hour set of early hits and new crowd pleasers. Being of a certain age, I couldn’t help but hear Haircut One Hundred shaking hands with Spandau Ballet while the Duranies were shaking their hips and screaming for bassist Noah Hill’s hair flipping.
Evidenced by last nights show, Parcels has the stuff to go on and make music for another decade and beyond (they’ve been together now for ten years). Real hands on musicianship, a palpable passion to play it, and dynamic analog authenticity will propel them “through the barricades” (apologies for the Spandau Ballet reference) to the top of the pop mountain where they will have to duke it out with The Lemon Twigs.
