Bob Weir brought his trio the Wolf Brothers to the Warner Theatre in Washington DC on November the 12th with a diverse and interesting night of music.  The band consists of Jay Lane on drums and legendary producer and musician Don Was on bass.

The night’s show consisted of a set list that spanned the totality of Weir’s career with material from the Grateful Dead, Ratdog, Bobby and the Midnites and more.  Even Lay My Lilly Down from Bob Weir’s recent solo album Blue Mountain was on the diverse list of songs that night in the nation’s capital.

The list of covers was no less interesting and included the tour debut of Bobby Darin’s Artificial Flowers, Donovan’s Sunshine Superman, the Merle Haggard classic Mama Tried, Bob Dylan’s A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall and more.

Mid way through the second set, Weir and Lane’s Furthur bandmate John Kadlecik emerged for two songs: Playing in the Band and Scarlet Begonias.  Set two continued for four more songs culminating in the Dead classic Throwin Stones.

After a short break, the encore saw Kadlecik re-emerge for two more songs, the reprise of Playing in the Band plus Touch of Grey to end the show.  Weir and Kadlecik of course played that song numerous times to close shows on Furthur tour, trading vocals back and forth and reinforcing the Grateful ethos of “We will survive…”

This tour has featured several guest sit ins including Kenny Brooks from Ratdog in Port Chester and Government Mule front man Warren Haynes, also.  Wolf Brothers tour continues with a show tonight in Philadelphia Pa and then in Boston later this week at the historic Wang Theatre.  Finally on November 18 the band will hit New York City at the Beacon Theatre.
