There were electrifying performances by Cold Engines, Sygnal to Path, the Balkun Brothers and many others.  Organizers interspersed the musical performances in between giving out awards, batched of 3 to five at a time.  After a half dozen years of this event, the producers have made things run smoothly with very little transition time and always something happening to keep the audience involved. Categories were split between regional winners (be in state for each of the New England states) by genre (rock, country, metal, etc) and major awards like Band of the Year and Album of the Year, etc. Unlike years past where it seemed like a band or two get a few awards, this year’s ceremony it seemed as if no one artist got more than one award, though there were a few artists who had been nominated in multiple award categories. The night was capped off with a great tribute to Prince by the band Love Sexy, which featured guest appearances by many of the winners and nominees.  This was a great night of music and a celebration of this vibrant collection of artists, promoters, venues, and indie music scenesters. We got this note from Joe Graham, the producer of the show:  “After months of planning, this quote says it all; “The New England Music Awards was a total smash, seamless production from start to finish” – So on that note; thank you – Cat WilsonJeffrey Bullethead RoydsKDS ProductionsMEISA UMass Lowell ChapterColeman Rogers – all the presenters! all the performers! – The NEMA staff and the entire production crew at Showcase Live! – i think the email was meant for all of you – “   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-LLCJgIBus The Winners: Band of the Year – Roots of Creation Album of the Year – Domestic/Ruby Rose Fox Song of the Year – The Mystic/Adam Jensen Producer of the Year – Jonathan Wyman Live Act of the Year – Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys New Act of the Year – Gracie Day Songwriter of the Year – Julia Russo Male Performer of the Year – Jay Psaros Female Performer of the Year – Annie Brobst Rock Act of the Year – The Balkun Brothers Pop Act of the Year – Karina Rae Country Act of the Year – Paige Davis Roots Act of the Year – Town Meeting Metal Act of the Year – Enemy Remains Best is State – MA – Flight of Fire Best is State – NH – Harsh Armadillo Best is State – VT – The Natch Best is State – RI – We Built the Moon Best is State – ME – Armies Best is State – CT – Wess Meets West Video of the Year – By The Pool – Ari B – Directed by Ray Key https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzJac_rNik0 To submit a review or story for consideration hit us at [email protected] Check out the Live Music News and Review.com Facebook page for updates and announcements.
