Town of Newmarket Gets Fired-Up for Upcoming Oyster Celebration

Enjoy the best of what Newmarket, NH has to offer with this unique day of activities, music and food with the Newmarket Olde Home Day and Oysterfest Saturday August 9, 2014. The Olde Home Day and Oyster Festival is a toast to Newmarket’s roots and rejuvenation of its Downtown Village and Waterfront. Saturday is all about celebrating community, business and people – and bringing awareness to the oysters of Great Bay. The Nature Conservancy of New Hampshire is leading local efforts, along with
partnerscom/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/oysterfest1.jpg” alt=”” align=”texttop” />partners at the University of New Hampshire, Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership and others, to restore native oyster populations in the Great Bay Estuary.
The event includes a farmer’s market at Newmarket Jr./Sr. High School and the Lamprey Health Care Annual 5K.
On Main Street from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. there will be bands on the bandstand, vendor and food booths, Midas music & karaoke, FREE Kuddles the Clown balloons, a Teddy Bear Clinic, traveling barnyard, a rockwall, train rides and face painting. Musical entertainment includes Tammy Lynn & Mike Myles starting off the day with their rip-roaring brand of rockabilly. Award-winning singer/songwriter Ashley Jordon takes the stage after David Corson, along with Derek Astles, Eric Ott & Nate Laban, Jake Davis, and Roots of Creation’s frontman Brett Wilson performing an all acoustic set. Erin Harpe & The Delta Swingers finish off the afternoon with their fusion of country, Americana, soul, reggae, and blues.
The Water Front/Schanda Park location will be open from Noon – 7:00 p.m. and will feature the Oyster Fest celebration, beer tents, kayaking, free boat rides at the Dock and bands throughout the day. Bands include The Sitting Ducks and The Kenny Brothers Band, who will entertain with their American Jam Band version of rock, blues, folk, funk, jazz and improvisation. The electrified, rock’in and soulful Peter Prince Band is next, followed by Soggy Po’ Boys, who come to the stage with their unique version of New Orleans jazz. Roots of Creation rounds out the night with a rockin’ mix of roots and dub reggae with guitar-heavy rock and electronica.
FREE PRE Oyster Fest Party at The Stone Church Meeting House starting at 9:00 p.m. Friday night. The traditional reggae band The Equalites will be performing. FREE After Party at The Stone Church will begin at 8 p.m. featuring Back on the Train, whose upbeat, tuneful new project explores original music along with fresh takes on carefully curated classics from the roots rock, reggae and soul cannon. Ol Factory, which features members of Roots of Creation, All Good Feel Good, and Hot Day at the Zoo, opens.
