“Dweezil is making his long-awaited return to original composition with a new LP of his own, Via Zammata’, and now he’s armed with untold amounts of experience and insight gained from mastering his father’s genius,” writes Spin Magazine. “The resulting record, named for the Sicilian street that the Zappas once emigrated from, is a fitting mixture of legacy and creation.”

Via Zammata’ (November 27 / Fantom Records) marks Dweezil’s return to his own original music. Produced, written and arranged by Dweezil, the album also features a few special collaborations that include a song with venerable actor John Malkovich and the only co-write between Dweezil and Frank Zappa (on the song “Dragon Master”).

For the past decade, Dweezil Zappa has stepped away from his own songwriting, focusing instead on introducing his father Frank Zappa’s music to a new generation. Snagging a Grammy in 2008 for his meticulous instrumental efforts, he continued to uphold his father’s musical legacy by performing more than a thousand concerts with his ensemble Zappa Plays Zappa, whose members will join him on the 8-city US tour.

New song “Hummin'”

“Posies-like power pop to lounge music and the Tijuana Brass. The variety of guitar sounds is astounding and “Truth” is an instrumental with a wonderful bluesy solo The Beatles could have recorded with Eric Clapton… On “Jaws of Life,” Dweezil says “you were probably smarter when you were a kid.” But Via Zammata’ proves that at 46, he has aged wisely.” – Associated Press
