Things are looking up for the Northampton, MA-based hip-hop and soul group the Alchemystics. They will perform a string of dates in New England in December 2017 and January 2018, including a New Year’s Eve concert at new Worcester, MA venue Bull Mansion. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Alchemystics has largely reshaped itself with a new and renewed energy. With the passing of founding member Demse Zullo in 2015 and Ras Jahn in 2017, who were two hugely important emotional and musical leaders of the band in the last few years, this is practically a whole new band. John Corda and Ilana Morris have stepped in and stepped up to take this group to a whole new level. “We are excited for 2018 and continuing to grow and rebrand- look out for the emergence of our rising star Ilana as we bring her more and more to the forefront and new material with our current lineup of stellar musicians,” says vocalist Ian-I. The dates kick off at the Stone Church in Brattleboro, VT on Friday, December 22nd. The next day on Saturday the 23rd, the band will come to the Main Pub in Manchester, CT. After a short break, the Alchemystics return to Opus Underground in Salem, MA on Saturday, December 30th. Then they head west to headline a New Year’s Eve concert at Bull Mansion, in Worcester, MA! From there, the group will hightail it up to Carrabassett Valley, ME to perform at College Snowfest at Sugarloaf Mountain, with Judd Parson opening. The whole event is four days long, and the Alchemystics will perform on Wednesday, January 3rd. They stay in “Vacationland” for another day to perform at Portland House of Music and Events in Portland on January 4th. They then start making their way south and will play a show at Minglewood Tavern on Friday, January 5th in Gloucester, MA and conclude this mini-tour at Riverwalk Cafe in Nashua, NH on Saturday, January 6th. A few more shows have just been announced, too: the Alchemystics will return to Hawks and Reed Performing Arts Center in Greenfield, MA to play on Friday, January 26th. They then head south to Connecticut to play Strange Brew Pub in Norwich the next day on Saturday the 27th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vu7D9TPq8k

About the Alchemystics Fueled by their passion to explore beyond the edges of traditional musical boundaries and their diverse ethnic and musical backgrounds, the Alchemystics blend reggae, politically-infused hip-hop, gritty soul, hard-driving rock, and pulsing Jamaican, Cuban and Trinidadian rhythms into an utterly unique and distinctively original new sound. The result is modern-day roots music with global appeal – an alchemy of ancient musical traditions; intricate, intelligent wordplay; elementally raw soul; irresistible hooks; deep, driving rhythms; and old-school vocal harmonies – fired by the Alchemystics’ unique blend of intensity, passion, and sheer artistic chemistry into a powerful, contemporary, and unmistakable sound. Formed by producers and rhythmic earth shakers Demse Zullo (drums & percussion) & Garrett Sawyer (bass) in early 2003, the Alchemystics under their musical direction have grown into an eclectic lineup of talented musicians. They combine the inspired, masterful vocals of Ilana Morris and Ian-I, the smooth and socially conscious lyricism of Force, the Afro-Caribbean infused percussion of Matthew King and Freddy McCondichie, booming bass of Chris Ball, and the cosmic keyboards of John Corda. Together, The Alchemystics have catalyzed into an original, unstoppable musical force. Their high-energy, fiercely danceable live shows have gained the band a passionately loyal multi-cultural and multi-generational following throughout New England and beyond. The Alchemystics have shared stages with a global array of music luminaries such as Stephen Marley, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Clipse, Damian Marley, The Abyssinians, Sister Carol, The Coup, Inner circle, Busta Rhymes, Yellow Man, Burning Spear, Gil Scott Heron, Culture, Steel Pulse, Angelique Kidjo, Mighty Sparrow, The Brazilian Girls, Israel Vibrations, The English Beat, Midnite, King Sunny Ade and Taj Mahal among many others. The Alchemystics firmly embrace the philosophy that music and art are tools for propelling social change in our communities, and that the future of music and the planet necessitates bringing people of diverse backgrounds together to create conscious community. Individually and collectively, the members of the Alchemystics prioritize giving back to their local community, working closely with local youth groups and lending their musical talents when called upon. In November 2017, members of the Alchemystics performed a benefit for hurricane relief for Puerto Rico, called Puerto Rico Se Levanta! With other local musicians, the Alchemystics helped raise thousands of dollars to help Puerto Ricans in need. Individually and as a group, Alchemystics members regularly guest lecture, teach, and perform at schools and colleges throughout the Northeast. The Alchemystics have made their mark on the festival circuit, performing at major music events throughout the Northeast like Ziontific, StrangeCreek, Wormtown, Wild Woods, MOVE!, Meraki Roots Music Festival, Green River Festival, Matrix, Bella Terra, Cosmic Alignment, and Open Road Music and Arts, just to name a few. They continue to play throughout the Northeast year-round. www.thealchemystics.com facebook.com/alchemystics From the video channel of Gerryjvideo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y3ibHqDgWM Drop us a line at [email protected] to submit your contribution ideas, sign up for our newsletter, or to just say hi!
