Toto returned to Boston on the 21st of July to the outdoor venue at Leader Bank Pavillion. The concert goers encountered a surfeit of H2O as the skies opened up during our arrival and through a good portion of the show but that didn’t damper the enthusiasm of the packed house that night.
Opening the evening was The Romantics who set included hits, ‘What I Like About You’ and Talking in Your Sleep, and then Christopher Cross entertained the audience with a full band and backup singers. His set also included fan favorites, ‘ Sailing, Arthur’s Theme and Ride Like the Wind’.
Toto’s last remaining member, Steve Lukathor and 2nd longest member, lead singer Joseph Williams lead the band through their lengthy catalogue of music which included, ‘Rosanna’ and ‘Hold the Line’ and Dennis Atlas’ (recently added on keyboards replacing Steve Maggiora) Endless (with a following an engaging keyboard solo where Dennis was the sole person onstage). Of course, the evening ended with the long awaited, ‘Africa’. The audience were on their feet singing along with the band, which also included appearances by Christopher Cross, his backup singers and Wally Palmer from The Romantics.
The skies had cleared by the end of the evening and maybe, the rains moved on to bless Africa.
