Tedeschi Trucks Band delivered another unforgettable performance at the sold-out Wang Theatre in Boston on October 4, 2024. This show was a masterclass in musicianship, with Derek Trucks’ sublime slide guitar and Susan Tedeschi’s soulful vocals front and center. It was clear from the opening notes of “Don’t Let Me Slide” that the evening would be a special one, with the band locking into a groove that lasted the entire night.
“Do I Look Worried” brought out the depth of Tedeschi’s voice, resonating with the bluesy, emotionally raw tone she’s known for, while “Until You Remember” tugged at the audience’s heartstrings. Derek’s slide guitar work on “Gravity” was spellbinding, showcasing his intricate phrasing and technical prowess. The band’s tribute to the Allman Brothers came in full force with a searing rendition of “Statesboro Blues,” with Trucks channeling the legacy of Duane Allman.

The Prince cover, “DMSR,” infused the show with funk, getting the crowd on its feet. “Pasaquan,” an instrumental epic, stretched into a nearly 20-minute journey, weaving in a reprisal of the Allman Brothers’ “Mountain Jam,” creating a seamless transition between the band’s Southern rock heritage and their improvisational flair.
Each member of the band shone during the night, taking their moments for individual solos, reinforcing their reputation as one of the most skilled ensembles in contemporary music. A special highlight came when Adrianne Hayes, Tedeschi’s former bandmate, joined them on guitar for the Derek and the Dominos’ cover “Keep On Growing,” her addition adding an extra layer of richness to the performance.
As the setlist flowed through the Grateful Dead’s “Mr. Charlie,” the Blind Faith cover “Presence of the Lord,” and their own original “I Am the Moon,” the night felt like a musical odyssey. “Midnight in Harlem” stood out as one of the night’s emotional peaks, with Tedeschi’s vocals carrying a wistful tenderness. The blues came back in full force with “Leaving Trunk” and Bobby Bland’s “I Pity the Fool,” both of which had the crowd hanging onto every note.
The encore, “Show Me,” ended the night on a high-energy note, sending the audience out on a wave of euphoria. With the band at the peak of its powers and the hometown connection in full swing, this concert was a true celebration of their legacy, artistry, and connection to the Boston music scene.
