Marking one of the most public and epic collapses of a band, Jane’s Addiction confirms that the remainder of the tour is now cancelled.
In a meltdown that can only be described as ugly, the band imploded onstage after multiple shows that illustrated a group that was not on the same page musically or emotionally. The band had reformed to the delight of fans and even released new music, only to have hit rock bottom onstage this weekend.
Fans speculated about the health of lead singer Perry Farrell while he struggled to perform with the band. Questions about his mental health and substance abuse culminated in an onstage fistfight during the show in Boston, MA over the weekend. It’s hard to see how any band bounces back from this level of conflict. Farrell has released his own statement expressing regret for his actions.
Jane’s Addiction have already cemented their place in rock and roll history, as has Perry Farrell himself. From ground breaking music to establishing Lollapalooza in many ways the music of the 1990s and beyond were mightily effected. Making new music for this tour was icing on the cake for long time fans of this innovative band.
The crying shame about this, aside from the disappointment of the fans, and obvious concern for everyone’s wellbeing is the collossal loss for all who worked on this tour already, and all of those who were scheduled to work for the coming shows. While entertainment titans like Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro can likely afford to take the financial hit- workers from every city on the tour’s schedule will now be at a loss for whatever investment and opportunity that they may have had.
