The Fonda in Los Angeles on September 24 2024 with photos by A Rood Photography and words by David Ponak

On Tuesday evening, Cornelius brought his 30th Anniversary Dream In Dream Tour 2024 to the Fonda Theater in Hollywood Tuesday night for his first live show in the LA area in 5 years.

The show was a feast for the audience’s eyes and ears, tightly synchronizing the musical performances with trippy visuals and utilizing ear popping surround sound mixing seldom heard in small theater sized venues.

The five-year absence left a lot of music to catch up on, with the live debut of material from his recent releases Dream In Dream, Ethereal Essence and Mind Train.  The range of the material runs from funky to noisy to, well, ethereal, and provided a very eclectic mix of vibes across the two-hour show.

Cornelius also reached deep into his catalogue for the 30th anniversary, performing fan favorites from Fantasma, Point and Sensual with the expected tightness and eye candy.

Backing Cornelius (a/k/a Keigo Oyamada) was his incredible longtime band, consisting of Hirohisa Horie (keyboards), Yuko Araki (drums) and Yumiko Ohno (keyboards and bass.)

In all, it was a fantastic and unique show. The audience thrilled in taking in all the sights and sounds.  Here’s to hoping he doesn’t take another five years to return.
