Fans in Norwich are swept off their feet! Review & Photography by Joel Shover

Chris Beard made a stop at the beautiful Donald L. Oat Theater in historic Norwich, CT on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024. The show was made possible from great sponsors like The Mohegan Tribe, The Connecticut Blues Society, Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, Sikh Art Gallery, Sound Waves Magazine, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Norwich, Joe’s Oil, Compass Real Estate, La Stella Pizzeria, Bakery & Market, Zachary Meyer Insurance, and Hosmer Mountain Beverages.

If you’re any fan of the blues and you weren’t there, then you are sorry today that you missed this excellent performance. Chris Beard is the son of great guitarist Joe Beard hailing from Memphis, TN. Chris was fortunate to have the blues greats like Buddy Guy and Matt “Guitar” Murphy around him growing up as a child on Beale Street. To say the blues lives in his blood and veins would be an understatement.

Chris hit the stage at the Donald L. Oat Theater and from the very first note of his signature hard-hitting blues sound the fans were transformed. It took less than one verse of a song to have people dancing in their seats grooving along with the Prince of the Blues. Fans rocked and rolled all night as Beard and his band gave three thousand percent of their talents on the Norwich Arts Center’s Blues on Broadway Series stage. Be sure to check the Norwich Arts Center website for more artis and dates to be announced for the Blues on Broadway series.

Chris Beard is out on the road promoting his latest album “Pass it on Down” which was released on September 15th, 2023, on his own record label Destin Records. Beard has been recording albums since 1998 and instantly won himself a W.C. Handy nomination for Best New Blues Artist with his album Barwalkin’ on JSP Records.

You can catch Chris Beard on any one of these upcoming dates.
