XFinity Center in Mansfield MA August 10 2022 by Joel Shover
Santana and Earth Wind & Fire have been scorching the United States on this latest tour. The steamy New England night got a lot hotter in Mansfield, MA when Earth Wind & Fire took the stage and started performing hit after hit to the excited crowd at the Xfinity Center, a Live Nation venue.
Known as one of the most commercially successful acts in music history with sales of over 90 million records Earth Wind & Fire is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time. Appropriately starting their show with “Shining Star” the band kept heating up from there with “Mighty Mighty/Celebrate”, and celebrate we did. The party got hotter with the next two numbers “Getaway” then “Serpentine Fire” and so did founding member Verdine White as he showed why he’s Rolling Stones number 19 greatest Bass Players of all-time with his funkified bass solo.
“Sing a Song” was the next chart-topper as they jumped right into a funky Beatles cover of “Got to Get You into My Life”. Earth Wind & Fire showed that their distinct jazzy R&B sounds will withstand time itself. The packed house sang and danced along to other great hits like “Reasons”, “Boogie Wonderland”, “Fantasy”, “After the Love is Gone”, and “Let’s Groove/September” which can be seen here.

Carlos Santana graced the stage in his signature hat and gold Paul Reed Smith Guitar and performed the hit “Soul Sacrifice”. The whole band was on point tonight and it showed as Carlos’ wife Cindy was gracefully playing the drums. “Savor” was the next Latin inspired song from Santana that had the crowd rocking along as David Matthews sure was having a blast playing those keys.
The incense was lit and the stage was set for one of the most influential guitar players ever, Carlos Santana. Inducted in 1998 to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Santana really showed the Eastern Massachusetts crowd why.
Next up was “Jin-go-lo-ba” into everyone’s favorite, “Evil ways”. There was no stopping the band now as they had found that special groove in “Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen” that had the crowd in a trance. Another popular hit song came next with “Oye como va” that had the crowd swaying and spinning like we were back at Woodstock!
The band busted out “She’s Not There”, a cover from the Zombies.
Other highlights were “Maria Maria”, “Corazon Espinado”, “Life is Worth Living”, “Roadhouse Blues” and a Yougbloods cover of “Get Together” Santana proved he is healthier than ever tonight after that scare a few shows back. Go see this tour of two very talented bands playing all the hits you know and love.
