With a career that spans a half century, the best songs by the Prince of Darkness is a matter of debate for all metal lovers.
Ozzy Osbourne needs no introduction, but I’m going to give him one anyway. He rose to stardom in the 1970s as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, and fans would soon coin him The Prince of Darkness. Unfortunately, the rock and roll lifestyle of drugs and more drugs caught up with Ozzy in the early years of his success, leading to him being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979.
But Ozzy didn’t let it deter him from becoming a phenomenal solo artist. He had already proven himself to be the center of the rock and roll party when performing with his band on the big stage and his solo career rocketed him back to the top. His voice is iconic and recognizable within the first moment, allowing him to quickly grip an audience. Let’s relive the great songs from The Prince of Darkness both with Black Sabbath and on his own.
Where Is Ozzy Osbourne Now?
Osbourne had a hiatus in his musical career but remained in the public eye as a reality TV star with his family. Since the end of his reality TV show, he has kept making music and is set to release a new album.
Of course, he does this out of love for music. A rock and roll god-like Ozzy doesn’t need to keep working when scooping royalties for his timeless tracks. He’s even making royalties for his name alone in the gaming world with a popular Ozzy Osbourne slot game made in his honors. His family has created an entire television industry out of shows that feature Ozzy, the family and travel from The Osbournes to Ozzy and Jack’s World Detour.
Top 3 Ozzy Osbourne Songs
1. Mr. Crowley
Mr. Crowley was a song dedicated to Aleister Crowley, a man who was not celebrated as much during his time but did have a follower in Ozzy. Crowley was an occultist and a hellraiser who called himself the 666 Beast. Thus, it becomes rather apparent why The Prince of Darkness will have admired him. The song is nothing short of enchanting, and this Ozzy solo is so ripe and earthy. It’s much calmer than many of the other solos by the artist, but it creates this wavering effect that overpowers the listener to stay completely still and watch on. It’s the perfect cocktail of crushing, charismatic and chilling that nobody else can achieve, in my opinion.
2. Changes
Black Sabbath may be the greatest song writing accomplishment for Ozzy and Black Sabbath in their fifty years in music. It provides a unique opportunity to see this chaotic metal band give an emotional and softer insight into their talents. The fact that Black Sabbath got back together in more recent years with more wisdom and more life experiences, merged with the topic of the track, and to hear it now is truly something special. You can see and feel the emotion in this song as an older group.
If you’ve never seen this performance or want to listen again – you should.
3. No More Tears
No more Tears is the complete opposite of the last two songs. The performance of No More Tears is a mash-up of creepy, sleazy and sexy. It’s probably not a go-to answer when the fans think of his best solo, but the song allows him to show off his full range. This was almost two decades since Ozzy hit the heavy metal scene hard, and he was still miles on the top at this point.
The latest news surrounding this mega star was when he announced a new health issue – he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease around one year ago. For the last several years tours have been delayed and eventually canceled. Despite this the music that Ozzy has released lately has been some of his best work of an illustrious career.
One of his most recent releases, Under the Graveyard is a career defining masterpiece achievable only by a performer at the top of his game. The autobiographical nature of the song makes it perfect for an artist whose audience adores him.
