What will Ozzy Osbourne’s next solo album means for fans?
Ozzy Osbourne is reportedly working intensely on his new solo album, and the big news is that it is already half-way done. Ozzy apparently has been working on the album slated for a release sometime this year all the way back in September.
The singer is working again with the producer and guitarist Andrew Watt, who was also behind the 2020 studio album “Ordinary Man”. Watt said that the work on the new release was centered around keeping Ozzy safe, due to his age (72 years old), and his pre-existing medical conditions.
The producer confirmed that in the studio it’s just himself, the artist, and the engineer, so it is taking a little longer to record. Watt also said that there will be some quite long songs, even eight or nine minutes long, “and these are really crazy journeys”. Watt added that he is felling excited about the entire project.
fans are in store for some big surprises. Word has it that the album will feature members of the Foo Fighters, Metallica, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. This means some of the biggest names in rock and metal from the past several decades will all appear on the album.
“There’s a bunch of people involved, I can’t say for sure until it’s all finished, but I started doing a bunch of basic tracks with Chad and Robert Trujillo, who used to play in Ozzy’s band”, Watt told Guitar World.
“I think it’s so cool as a rock fan to be able to listen to half an album with Chad Smith (drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers), and then you flip it over and you get to hear Taylor Hawkins (drummer for the Foo Fighters)”, went on Watt.
The album is expected to come out sometime in 2021, but for now there is no news on the exact date. The album doesn’t have a name yet, either.
Nonetheless, Watt confirmed that the wait will be worth it: “There was no point in Ozzy or me doing this again unless we thought we could bring something new to the table. And I feel like we’re achieving that” goal.
Ozzy’s last album was a commercial success, and also had some very good reviews. For example, it is rated 78 on Metacritic, and received 8/10 from Variety, and 3.5/5 from Rolling Stone. It topped some charts, including US Top Hard Rock Albums, and US Top Rock Albums. The album includes songs featuring stars like Slash and even Elton John for “Ordinary Man”.
More importantly than charts and guest stars, the album showed a real breakthrough in terms of writing and performance. It was by far the best Ozzy release in years, and the notion that there is more coming has fans salivating.

Ozzy’s latest work is showing a depth of artistry reflective of a performer who has been at the top of his genre for over a half century. The last release and the current album are showing a reflective and introspective side to Osbourne. We’ve seen artists from Johnny Cash to David Bowie become reflective and release ground breaking work toward the end of their lifetimes, and Osborne looks to be making his own golden works now. There is a depth to the writing and songs that show a man reflecting on an amazing life.
The last several tours for Osbourne have been cancelled due to his ongoing health struggles. May the fates bestow on us one more chance to see the Prince of Darkness perform live in 2021 or 2022.
