To begin his show he sang “Well May The World Go” by Pete Seeger. The folk icon was a good friend of McCutcheon who passed away in 2014 at the age of 94. Throughout the night he played many of his own songs as well as some of his favorites by Seeger. In between songs McCutcheon told several personal stories which gave his fans a good laugh. The crowd sang along to the songs and threw out suggestions to which John was happy to oblige.

McCutcheon is a skilled musician and switched between seven different instruments throughout the concert. He began the night on the banjo. Next, he played the guitar and then a 12 string guitar. After he sat down at a grand piano for a couple of songs. He then switched to a Hammered dulcimer which proved to be a unique percussion instrument that suits itself well to McCutcheon’s folk style. He also played two songs on the fiddle. For his last song “This Land is Your Land” a folk staple and one of the great American songs, written also by Pete Seeger, McCutcheon played the autoharp.

For his encore McCutcheon performed “The Times They Are A Changin” by Bob Dylan. Much to the crowds’ delight, after the concert McCutcheon stuck around to talk to the fans as well as sign CDs and posters.
