The scene was set for a funky evening in Stroudsburg, PA at The Sherman Theater. Nine-piece funk/groove outfit, Turkuaz, are known for their dynamic live performances that have made them one of the hottest groups on the scene today.

Starting out the evening, Organ Freeman, based out of Los Angeles, CA, really helped warm up the crowd early on. The young trio, consisting of Trevor Steer (organ), Rob Humphreys (drums), and Erik Carlson (guitar), blended a unique style of groove/jazz, selections into their opening slot. You could tell by the group’s facial expressions that they were soaking up the energy that the audience was giving off.

Brooklyn-based Turkuaz, came out on fire right out of the gate. Opener, “The Rules,” got the Sherman Theater up and moving right from the get-go. This funky group led by lead guitarist/vocalist, Dave Brandwein, really knows how to bring the energy in any room to the next level. Throughout the headlining set you could see that the group was firing on all cylinders on numbers such as the “The Mountain” and “Rule The World.”

Sammi Garett and Shira Elias really add to the live performance with their strong vocals and flashy dance moves. “Take It Slow” flowed seamlessly into “If I Ever Fall Asleep,” and gave the audience an extra boost of energy in their dancing. Tucked away in the back of the stage, Michelangelo Carubba, kept the tempo upbeat on “Digital Love” and “Holy Ghost.”

The horn section (Greg Sanderson/Josh Schwartz/Chris Brouwers), traded off solos perfectly during the evening festivities. Throughout the headlining set, Craig Brodhead, showcased his wizardly guitar work as Taylor Shell brought the roof down with his thumping bass notes. As the nine members closed with their ever popular “Bubba Slide” and encoring with “Coast To Coast,” you could see everyone glowing ear to ear.

As the audience left The Sherman Theater, sweaty from dancing the night away, you knew that Organ Freeman and Turkuaz were the perfect amount of funk and groove for the fans.
