Bass players from around the country will join Philadelphia’s own internationally-renowned performer Gerald Veasley for the 16th Annual Bass BootCamp® (BBC), which will convene in Philadelphia, PA on March 17-19, 2017, at the Marriott Courtyard City Ave.

The BBC is an educational seminar attended annually by bass players of all ages, levels, and genre.  Having toured with the likes of jazz legends Grover Washington, Jr. and Joe Zawinul, Veasley brings his real world experience to the classroom.  Among the previous BBC faculty are Doug Wimbish, Victor Wooten, Will Lee, Richard Bona, Stu Hamm, Bakithi Kumalo, and Matthew Garrison .  This year’s all-star faculty includes Divinity Roxx (Beyonce), Chuck Rainey (Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin), Justin Raines (Israel Houghton), Bryan Beller (The Aristocrats), Anthony Wellington (Victor Wooten Band), Adam Nitti (Carrie Underwood), Mike Pope (Chick Corea), and Freekbass.

From beginners to seasoned players, the camp offers attendees a unique combination of information and inspiration.  The three-day weekend includes hands-on practical instruction along with jam sessions, master classes, and panel discussions.  Though the instructors are world renown, they are not as intimidating as the “BootCamp” name would suggest.  “Gerald makes everything easy and his instructors make everything easy; you don’t feel intimidated,” reports one novice camper.

Participants appreciate the sense of community as much as the actual instruction.  Educator/author Patrick Pffeifer calls the BBC “a community information exchange on steroids.”  Pfeiffer also describes the non-judgmental environment of the camp: “If you make a mistake, the whole community is there to pick you up and if you do well, the whole community is there to embrace you.  It is a very powerful experience.”

The full BBC experience includes the Bass BootCamp® EXPO, exclusively held on March 18th, which is an exhibition that showcases bass gear by innovative manufacturers including Ibanez, Aguilar, MTD, NY Bass Works, and many more.  The EXPO, which is open to the general public, will also feature a master class one of the world class instructors as well as a bass maintenance clinic. The EXPO will be followed by an All Star faculty concert, Countdown To Ecstasy: A Salute to Steely Dan.

The Bass BootCamp was founded in 2002 by Gerald Veasley, Roxanne Veasley and Lee Patterson, and has served more than 600 bass players from around the world.  A limited number of scholarships to attend the BBC are also offered to qualifying students between the ages of 18-25.
