Nominees Announced for 2017 New England Music Awards

Julia RussoThe nominees for the 2017 New England Music Awards have been announced. Fans can vote online for their favorite acts using this link. More than half of the nominated acts, including Massachusetts’ Moment of Clarity, Rhode Island’s Ian Fitzgerald, and New Hampshire’s Pardon the Spins, are first-time nominees. Wunderkind singer-songwriter Julia Russo(pictured), from Connecticut, leads the charge with four nominations: Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Female Performer of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year. She’s not the only artist to be recognized for her talents at a young age: Song of the Year/Pop Act of the Year/Video of the Year nominee Karina Rae is only 15 years old.

 

 

Massachusetts leads the six states of New England with the most nominations, boasting an impressive 35. Connecticut follows, with their talent racking up 25 nominations; New Hampshire has 14 nominations; Vermont, 11; and Rhode Island rounds out the pack with nine. Massachusetts’ darlings Bella’s Bartok (pictured), who have been serving up their unique brand of circus punk Bella's Bartok performingsensibility up and down the East Coast, is nominated for Best Live Act. Reggae ska world group Roots of Creation, its own roots in New Hampshire, is up for Band of the Year. Festival phenom Twiddle, hailing from Vermont, is also up for Band of the Year.
