This was a big year for Freekbass.  What started with great difficulty within the band with the passing of drummer Big Bamn in an accident has ended in optimism and a band that is ready to go out on tour with new music and a new signature bass for Freekbass.

The band is getting ready to go out on their annual holiday run to the Southeast and has dates in the Midwest to start the year.  To celebrate, the band has released a new song and video for Let’s Go All the Way on Ropeadope Records.

The song was originally released by the band Sly Fox who were a duo in the 1980s featuring Mudbone of PFunk and and Michael Camacho.  The song was originally released in 1985 on Capitol Records and was a top 10 hit in both the US and the UK.  Cooper himself heard the remake and commented:

“Hey, Gary “Mudbone” Cooper here of Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy’s Rubber Band, P Funk All Stars and Sly Fox, the originators of “Let’s Go All The Way”. My long time funky friend, Freekbass, has monster-mashed up his recent rendition of the song, and I love it!  Keep doin the thang, and in everything you do, Go All The Way! Funk is 4 da brave. “

The current lineup of Freekbass and the Funk Assembly includes PFunk / Bootsy alum Rico Smoov on the drums and Razor Sharp Johnson on keys.  The band is a tight and funky unit and has hit shows from coast to coast in the last year.

Freekbass the man has also been busy in his world of music education and gear, too.  An avid gear head, Freekbass is always looking for the next advancements in sound and equipment.  He teamed up with the folks at Stonefield Musical Instrument Company in New Zealand to release the Freekbass signature bass.  Freekbass has been cruising various bass centric events including the London Bass show, and the Bass Player Live in Los Angeles, in order to tell the world about this innovative bass guitar.  Freekbass got together with renowned video creator Richard Bell and Stonefield’s Tomm Stanley to showcase the bass in the video “Looking for the Bassmaker” which premiered at BP Live this year.  This video was filmed in New Zealand.

For more information on the Freekbass signature model check out the Stonefield website.  Of course every bass needs a great amplifier and Freekbass has partnered with Eden Amplification on some amazing amps.

Freekbass will be bringing all that and more out on the road with him in the coming weeks with shows from Ohio to Florida and back.
