I’ve been frequenting the Root Cellar alot since their soft opening in late July and was stoked to see Rhythm Inc make their premier in the newest venue in Greenfield, MA. There was already a pretty good crowd gathered when I got there about a half hour before their show started and I made the rounds hanging with tons of friends who were there.
The band has been around the pioneer valley for years but really seem to be making a run with the current lineup. Simon White on guitar and vocals and is front and center, Sam French on drums (Adynkra), Professor McDoodle on bass (Wank), Jason Metcalf on keys (Ras Spectiv and formerly of the Alchemystics), Jay Stanley on percussion and microphone (Max Creek) and Brian DiMartino on lead guitar (rice – An American Band, Uncle Everett). Giles Stebbins jumped up sometimes too to spit some lyrics during select cuts.
This version of the band is smooth and rehearsed playing almost entirely original songs by Simon White. It’s on the chill side of reggae and hip hop, with an emphasis on consciousness. They seem to have upgraded at every instrument position with each member really showcasing their style and abilities within this band and genre.
I would not hesitate to see them again, and I imagine now that they are heading in new directions and will be creating new sounds and songs that will take them into a new era for the band. The Root Cellar itself seems to be getting their feet under them too, with things operating very smoothly from the dance floor to the bar to the front door- with a few weeks of shows under their belts they seem ready for prime time.
