I’ve been hearing about lespecial for quite some time but I hadn’t heard them until this show.  Riverworm was packed as it had been all weekend, much more so than any other Strangecreek I’ve attended.

The three piece band is on a mission to deliver compositional pieces, thick tapestries of sound that blend elements of jam, electronic music, samples, grooves- all put into the context of the tales that they wish to tell.

The colors of their jams tend to be on the darker side without having the tragic darkness of tool or metal- rather adventuresome darkness that has you reaching for the door handle in the deserted house, not fearing what you’ll discover on the other side, but rather hoping that there is treasure and more adventure through every portal.

During the set the band covered a lot of ground from R&B to Metal to Afrobeat, even covering Primus’ My Name Is Mud.  With their set about to be followed by the Llama Lasagne set, lespecial had nearly every musician in the Pioneer Valley watching- and Strangecreek rap ambassador took

the stage and added a family rap.  Jay Stanley from the Hashtags and Max Creek was spotted taking it all in, with a bit of awe on his visage.
