“In the grand tradition of Can and Neu!, Athens psych pop outfit writes music to get lost in.” – Consequence of Sound
“New Madrid is a four piece indie band from Athens, GA that plays an invigorating style of indie rock that’s both strong in its intricacies as its catchiness.” – Noisey
“New Madrid’s follow-up to 2014’s Sunswimmer finds the Athens rock quartet expanding its palette, incorporating Television-esque guitar heroics and various psychedelic flourishes into its once-rootsy sound.” – Flagpole
The new album from Athens, GA quartet New Madrid is out today. Co-produced by David Barbe and the band in Athens at Chase Park Transduction Studio, magnetkingmagnetqueenis New Madrid’s third album and second on New West Records imprint Normaltown Records. The album reveals New Madrid’s evolution and collective growth, resulting in the band’s most complete work to date. The band, comprised of Phil McGill (guitar/vox,) Graham Powers (guitar/vox,) Ben Hackett (bass/vox,) and Alex Woolley (drums/percussion), updated their psychedelic, reverb-heavy jams and jangly pop melodies with a hint of art rock influence, all while remaining true to the experimental song-craft. Additional recording took place at Dogwood Lodge in Soddy Daisy, TN and at the band’s home studio.
magnetkingmagnetqueen is available digitally and on CD and LP on the band’s website: http://www.newmadridband.com/. For fans that purchase the album in an independent record store, they will be rewarded with a exclusive 4.25″ x 4.25″ magnet featuring a unique mash up of the album artwork and a download code for a full live performance of their first-ever London show from earlier this year. The enthralling set featured 10 career-spanning tracks, including two from the new record.
