In an announcement that was easily understood by anyone who has watched the weather forecast the last few days, North Carolina’s Home Grown Music festival has been canceled.  In a statement just released via facebook by the Home Grown Music Network

“It is with our deepest regrets that we must cancel this weekend’s Home Grown Music 20th Anniversary Festival.

Extreme wet weather has been hitting our state hard for more than the past week and with hurricane Joaquin expected to impact our weather even further this coming weekend, we feel that this could become a potentially life threatening situation and we have the highest regards for your safety.

At this time we are working very hard on a alternate plan to secure a venue so that we might still be able to bring you some music in a dry location.  This is a heartbreaking situation for us, so we ask that you please bear with us while we sort everything out. We will post updates about our plans and information regarding reimbursement as soon as possible.”

Bands that were scheduled to appear include Keller Williams, Roots of Creation, Lotus, Big Something, Moon Boot Lover, Max Allen Band, The Recipe, Big Daddy Love, Purple School Bus, Barefoot Manner, Moses Guest, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Dangermuffin, Cornmeal and countless others.  It sounds as if the promoters will be trying to find an indoor location where some of those bands who are local and or are already in the region may possibly perform in a scaled down venue location.HGMN 2

Brett Wilson of Roots of Creation had this to say, “We were extremely excited to come down to the Southeast to play for our fans in North Carolina for the first time in many years.  We too value your safety more than rock and roll!  Don’t worry, once we finish this new album we will back soon, RoCking with ya.”   Roots of Creation have a variety of upcoming tour dates throughout the East including dates in New England with Congo Sanchez, Halloween in Hartford, and December dates with Ballyhoo including Baltimore, Boston and New York.

The Home Grown Music Network is one of the finest unions of bands that has existed nearly the last twenty years.  At the dawn of the internet age, Lee Crumpton and the HGMN helped bands communicate and stick together, creating a network of bands, venues and fans that provided momentum for developing artists, a sales space for music, and a platform for venues and retailers to adopt in order to spread the music that we all love.  Stay tuned to this article for updates.
