Why send a “non”, Deadhead, to review anything family related. It’s just meaningless to everyone. I am family and was blessed to be on board for all four flights. How many divine and glorious adjectives can I use to describe this band? John has the grin, Jeff just beams, and Reed; well. Reed matters! Of course, Jay is a percussionist, and they just rule.  The Golden Gate Wingmen are our future. They are the future of our tour. The Golden Gate Wingmen continue the stories and evolve them, neurochemically (not drug related!). They are mindful, and they have the unique ability to continue to tell the stories with integrity. We have always’ been an extended member of the band. The Golden Gate Wingmen are welcoming us on this bus. Get back on THIS BUS.

Mike Gordon tour dates for June tour, and new vinyl.

Now, this is IMPORTANT, The Golden Gate Wingmen are NOT a cover band. Sure they have deep roots in our scene; they were and are our scene. They are again. The Wingmen have emerged as a fresh jazz/rock/blue’s fusion band. The music is quite evolved and worthy of our full attention. The New material, which sounds familiar and with a message of continued Integrity, is as good as it gets.  They even cover some of our favorite songs. How nice to experience these songs as unexpected and sneaky sweet nostalgia. The Golden Gate Wingmen have it all and more.  They are trained, schooled and polished. They are ready to take their role. Of course we need to ask nicely, and support their present tour.

From my point of view, I experienced one show with three long set breaks. There were some repeats, something unusual to our ways, but these are the new anthems. I loved being a part, once again, of helping a band develop the songs I will love.

John’s playing continues to amaze me, and honestly, that is not easy. John is the only guitarist I know who can hold center while simultaneously playing three separate leads. (Maybe more, I could only hear three).  John even validated to me that what I heard was what he was attempting. He succeeded! I don’t want to compare him to anyone, in my book; John stands as his own artist. He has my full attention.

Jeff C.: what can you say about Jeff? He’s everywhere these days. Crushes it with every project he’s involved with. However, a surprise; Jeff sings! The Golden Gate Wingmen are so gracious to each other.  They finally turned up Jeff’s microphone. What a treat to the mix, Can solo material be far behind?  I hope so.

Now Reed Mathis: Reed Matters and the Fans of Reed Mathis are known as FORM.  FORMatters, and especially in this type of musical format.  Reed has a new formula. Reed got the nod to sing Bird Song. I am not sure it is not his now?  Ladder, an original, Oh Oh Mary, is Ladder destined to be a Terrapin?  His combination of ability, style and bass guitar work is unique to the Golden Gate Wingmen.  A perfect fit for this NOT A COVER BAND!!!  He sings you to tears. We’re blessed that one flight coincided with Bob Dylan’s birthday.  What a treat. The GGW served Mr. Dylan well that night.  What a blessing.  Reed loves Bob.

Lastly; but always number one, Mr. Jay Lane. Jay is our seasoned rhythm devil. He’s a percussionist, they just rule.  Thanks Jay. The shows are up, the review is late and the set lists are known by those who already know. So I will not repeat it here.  ENJOY!

For the “Still Not Convinced”, or the “Yet to be Informed”, THE GOLDEN GATE WINGMEN have earned their wings. They deserve to carry the torch. Their Success and Our future tour are tied together. They are a NEW band. They are a fully knowledgeable and schooled band in our culture. (In any culture, but they are ours now).  The music is their own, even if it is a cover. This is what we have been waiting for. California wrapped up, and now they head east. DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO GROW FURTHUR.

Oh yeah, the review:  Killed, Crushed, Transcended, first note till the last second encore. The now infamous, No Encore, GGW 2015 Spring, Shookup Tour. Already boarded but with stops coming near you soon.  These are hands-on jams.
