The building was built in 1832 as a Universalist Meeting House. In 1865 it was sold to the Roman Catholic Church, creating the first Catholic Church in Newmarket, NH. After the church moved to St. Mary’s in 1890 the Stone Church was used briefly by the Catholics as a private school for teaching French.

After the Catholics sold the building, it went through a variety of uses, including a VFW Hall, a shoe assembly plant and a roller skating rink. Since the 1960’s, when the Stone Church was bought by three University of New Hampshire students and turned into a live music venue, local musicians and popular touring artists have played to large crowds of fans and quickly became a premier music venue in the state.

The Stone Church currently serves a great selection of food and premium beers on tap. It is home to some of the best local and touring acts coming through every weekend. The atmosphere is ideal for the music lover looking to find something new or just hanging out with friends and grabbing a few drinks. The Stone Church is one of the most unique places to see a live show in the Seacoast, NH area. Indeed, The Church’s legacy is known throughout New England as an unforgettable place to both play and to hear live music. With such a privileged tradition of music and energy, the Church is humbled to continue operating as a trustee, if you will, of a one-of-a-kind energetic, musical vibe.

A recent change to the talent buyer at the Stone Church is making for a bright future. The new buyer said he is looking to bring bigger national acts into the venue and bring it back to its former glory. He will also bring the best talent the local and regional area has to offer. He has been in the music business for 20 years now and will make for a great addition to the Stone Church team, which is always delightful to work with, regarding booking or providing their customers with great service. The Stone Church also does private events, so if you need a place to set up a party or wedding reception they are there to help. popul

Atmosphere is Great, since changing hands! Love hanging out, and having one of the many beers they have on tap! The bartenders are great, and staff is very helpful!!”

“For a venue of its size, there’s little more a music lover could possibly ask for. Very nice/clean inside, not to mention cozy. The food is SOL-ID, and the people who run it are top notch. Oh, and they always manage to book great acts, cuz well, they’re good at what they do. Everybody should plan to spend a night at The Church to experience the overall vibe for themselves… and those who do surely will not be disappointed.”
