May 6 John Kadlecik Band with Todd Stoops on keys
Following the first ever west coast tour of the John Kadlecik Band in which the quartet hit Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California for the first time- including a sit in from Bob Weir in Mill Valley- fans will be treated to a run of shows starting this week in the East.
Joining the John Kadlecik band will be some guest keyboard players including Todd Stoops (Raq, Kung fu) May 6, 7, 19-22 and old friend Paul Grepps (John K. Band) for 14 and 15. They will be joined by bass player Klyph Black (Zen Tricksters, Jam Stampede) and Nathan Graham on drums (DC Mystery Cats and John K. Band.)
The schedule in May is rich with festival appearances including events in Virginia, Massachusetts, New York, Michigan and Ohio with club dates are sprinkled throughout the schedule. June will see an acoustic show in Bridgeport CT and more as yet unannounced shows.
Plans are already underway for a west coast return for the John Kadlecik Band in September after a summer that should include dates with this band and John’s appearance with Golden Gate Wingmen including confirmed shows at Peachfest in Scranton and other new stops for the all star lineup that includes Jeff Chimenti, Jay Lane and Reed Mathis.
April saw the John Kadlecik Band in historic rooms including the Fox Theatre in Boulder, the Oriental Theater in Denver, the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas, Sweetwater in Mill Valley, the Belly Up in Aspen and many others. Of course he has visited many of these places over the years with Dark Star Orchestra and Furthur, but it’s been quite a while since he may have been in rooms of that size with his own project. The tour featured classic material, Kadlecik originals, and unexpected covers from the corners of Kadlecik’s musical attic.
The band performed material from American Spring, an album he recorded with Melvin Seals and Greg Anton under the name the Mix. On Facebook Kadlecik posted that he felt the material, which features lyrics by Robert Hunter, is an apt reminder of the current political climate. “Yes, I am definitely playing “American Spring” in heavy rotation to try to bring awareness to the Democracy Spring movement… over 1,300 arrested in Washington, DC for acts of civil disobedience since April 11!!!#DemocracySpring“
