The show opened with two support bands:  My Jerusalem is a five piece band referring to themselves as Doom Pop from Austin, TX who are on Washington Square records.   Then came Zipper Club, a bi-coastal trio produced by James Iha.  Two members are from the band Cerebral Ballzy (Lizzy Trullie and Mason James) along with drummer Damar Davis. I was not familiar with the openers but the audience seemed to be receptive and the Zipper Club took advantage of the laser lights at their disposal to inject some color and movement into their show.

Swedish band The Sounds are on tour for the 10th anniversary of their second, and probably most popular, album Dying to Say This to You. Painted by Numbers was the hit off of that album. It had been a couple of years since the band had visited Los Angeles and fans were expectant and ready to go!

A surprise treat for the audience occurred during Painted when the Missing Persons/Deborah Harry-like Maja Ivarsson, singer for The Sounds, came off the stage and mingled with the rail riders and let them sing along into the microphone during the chorus.

The comparison to Harry and Blondie is an easy one to make both because of the blazingly blonde hair but also because of the pop sensibilities and the blend of keyboard and guitar within the instrumentation.

This tour is unique as they played the entire album from start to finish and then added in a few other favorites including their new single, Thrill which will be released on an upcoming EP in 2017.

The Belasco is a great theater and the sound and lights were well done. There was a good turnout for this show with the audience packing themselves in front of the stage to get closer to the band.
