Moon Hooch started around 10 and didn’t take a single break until they poured out as much hot horn energy as three dudes possibly could. The crowd loved every second of it. Great stage presence, high energy, and hardcore talent. One guy plays Bass Sax and the other guy plays regular Sax, then there’s a drummer and a synth board(the Sax guys use this) that pumps out a lot of bass. The room was full, and the band got the crowd into it with audience participation. At one point, the Bass Sax player took a street cone and commenced to play through Sax—>Street Cone—->>Mic—>>>crazy audience.

There was a break between Moon Hooch and New Mastersounds, and plenty of time for mingling and catching up. The New Mastersounds are a four piece powerhouse from England. Bass, Drums, Guitar, and Keyboard(Organ) players, each was top notch and kept the funk going throughout the rest of the night. The band had some friendly banter going on with the crowd and then among the band, But these guys were strictly business when it came time to jam the next song. All four guys sing too, and this was their first trip to Columbus. I would guess there were about 400 people there to see them throw down. “What are you all doing here?” said the drummer in a British accent. “We’ve never played Columbus before. Go away,” he said in jest. Their sound was a mix of high energy funk, rock, and jazz pop. I really enjoyed the band, with a classic lineup of players who really know how to jam. They were entertaining, funny, dance-able, and like-able. The guitarist was wearing a suit with a matching pocket square. He looked like a James Bond villain, and his timing and dexterity were impeccable. Check out some of the pics I took, check out the music, and look for the New Mastersounds in a town near you. I only hope I can get the word out about this great band. And that you get a chance to see them live.
