In announcements throughout Wednesday and Thursday, organizers of the Lock’n Festival are keeping fans updated on crazy weather that is happening in Virginia.  “A severe storm blew through our site, we are assessing the situation. Everyone is safe.”

Wednesday “evening, a severe thunderstorm with high winds passed over Lockn’ and caused damage to the festival grounds, particularly the parking and campground area. The good news is that no one was injured and the entire team is focused on cleaning up and preparing for a great festival. The unfortunate news is that we will be forced to delay the opening of the campgrounds and cancel Thursday’s performances in order to give the team the time necessary to make sure the festival grounds are safe for both our guests and our artists.

Despite the inconvenience the storm has caused, we count ourselves lucky that everyone is safe and that we have three great days of music ahead of us. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Later on Wednesday, “Opening of Campgrounds Delayed, Thursday (only) Performances Cancelled

Earlier this evening, a severe thunderstorm with high winds passed over Lockn’ and caused damage to the festival grounds, particularly the parking and campground area.

We look forward to seeing you soon.”

Thursday morning,  “Lockn’ organizers are asking concert-goers to be patient while crews work to rebuild and replace equipment and other necessary elements. We are working diligently to resolve all matters related to guest and artist safety, and will make a further announcement two hours prior to the opening of the campgrounds.”

Thursday morning at 9:30 AM, “Campgrounds at Lockn’ to open first thing Friday morning.  Lockn’ attendees are welcome in Lynchburg at: River Ridge Mall, 3405 Candlers Mtn Rd, there is plenty of parking and restaurants. James River Conference Center, 400 Court Street, there are restaurants and attendees are welcome to stay in the parking lot overnight. The Hillcats Stadium, 3176 Fort Avenue (enter off Oakley), attendees are welcome to stay in the parking lot overnight. There are available hotels in Lynchburg and Charlottesville. We will provide regular updates and appreciate your patience while we work to provide a safe event site & an amazing festival.”

The festival is much anticipated this year, with every member of the Core 4 of the Grateful Dead to be in attendance with their own bands.  This has fueled great speculation that there will be yet another reunion at a Peter Shapiro promoted event of what is essentially the Grateful Dead these days.  Other performers are to include Melvin Seals with JGB featuring John Kadlecik, Robert Plant, The Doobie Incident, Jefferson Airplane, Carlos Santana and Grateful Gospel which is to include Kadlecik and Keller Williams and others.  Also the North Mississippi All Stars, Strangefolk, MoonAlice, the Jayhawks, Fishbone, Karl Denson, Hot Tuna, Anders Osborne and many others.
