An all-star line-up of the musical friends of the late Jeff Martell will perform a tribute to the musician on his birthday Thursday August 4, 2016 at 6:30PM at The Pines Theater (with the tent at The Garden Room as a rain back up), located in Look Park, Florence, MA. The concert is a fundraiser for the Jeff Martell Scholarship Fund at Greenfield Community College.

The Concert will feature performances by an all-star line up of Western MA based artists, all of whom had a personal connection to Jeff. The full line up of artists includes The Lonesome Brother, Heather Maloney, The Nields, LuxDeluxe, And the Kids, Heart Centered Kirtan with Libby Volkening, The Gaslight Tinkers, The Boxcar Lilies, Dead Collective, East Creek, Thee Arcadians, Selfish Steam, Trevor Healy & Adam Bosse, Drew Lopenzina, Harp and Star Drooker.   The event will be hosted by western-ma jamband The Rev Tor Band.

Born and bred in the Berkshires of Western MA, Jeff Martell was a singer-songwriter who performed all across the Pioneer Valley and around New England. Jeff was a self proclaimed “New Age Psychedelic Folksinger and Kirtan Wallah” who for more than 30 years brought his unique brand of solo “Acoustic Groove” to venues across the region. Jeff was an accomplished acoustic guitar and harmonica player and in addition to performing his original music.  He recently discovered a spiritual passion for Kirtan, a kind of devotional yoga that involves call-and-response chanting. Jeff was also known for his work on the Green River Festival in Greenfield, MA, where he worked behind the scenes managing the grounds and operations at the annual summer music event, and for his work at the Easthampton Country Dance and Song Society, where he was the store and group services manager. Jeff Martell was killed Friday January 8th, 2016 in a head-on collision in West Springfield while driving to a gig in New York State from his home in Northampton.

Some of the highlights of the night include the Valley favorite The Nields.  Sisters Nerissa and Katryna have been making music professionally since 1991. For twenty years now, the sisters traveled the country as members of beloved folk rock band The Nields. With 16 CDs, major and independent record and publishing deals, performances with The Band, James Taylor, Dan Zanes, 10,000 Maniacs and the Indigo Girls, they have lived the Rock & Roll life. The Nields have been lauded for their gorgeous, lilting, sibling harmonies, their wise, classic, folk/pop songs, their hilarious banter on stage, and their generosity and warmth in performance and engagement with their fans.

Also making this night extra special are Northampton’s indie rockers And the Kids and rock n’ rollers LuxDeluxe. Playing what they call accessible unconscious existential indie glitter popsicle crisis music, And the Kids have been packing the sidewalks and clubs from Northampton to Boston to New York City with their fierce infectious harmonies, tight and unique grooves and songwriting that has the ability to reach down and tug at the truths of their generation and beyond.  Playing fun, catchy straight up rock and roll tunes that compel you to dance along, LuxDeluxe will also be making concert goers move on the 4th.
